Understand and Using Models of Ethical Decision-Making

This webinar will begin with a quick examination of the benefits and drawbacks of ethical codes followed by a short overview of the NOHS ethics code. The webinar will then examine four models of ethical decision-making: problem-solving models, moral models, cognitive-development models, and a social-constructivist perspective. In combination with the ethical code, we will examine how each model can be used and how the models can be integrated. Short case examples will be explored.

Presentation Outline

• Discuss the benefits and drawback of the use of ethical codes
• Highlight the NOHS ethical code
• Present four models of ethical decision-making: problem-solving, moral, cognitive development,and social constructivist
• Give short examples of how the NOHS ethics code and the various models can be used and integrated.

About the Presenter....

Dr. Edward Neukrug earned his doctorate in counselor education at the University of Cincinnati and is a professor of counseling and human services at Old Dominion University. A licensed professional counselor and licensed psychologist, he has experience in outpatient therapy, crisis counseling, substance abuse counseling, private practice , associate school psychologist, and as a school counselor. Dr. Neukrug has written and given hundreds of articles and presentations, and is the author of 10 books in counseling and human services and editor of the two-volume Sage Encyclopedia of Theory in Counseling and Psychotherapy.
