Announcing the 2017 NOHS National Conference

The 2017 National Organization for Human Services conference will be held in
Des Moines, IA, October 18 - 21

Conference Theme: Community Connections: Bridging the Gaps Between the Community, Academia, and the Human Services Profession


Mayor Quentin Hart is the first African American elected to the office of Mayor for the City of Waterloo.
Prior to the election Mr. Hart was the Associate Director of Multicultural Affairs for Hawkeye Community College and Ward 4 City Councilman. He was the first African American appointed Mayor Pro-Tem. Hart is currently a doctoral candidate at Iowa State University in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. He received his MAE in Postsecondary Education: Student Affairs from the University of Norther Iowa and is also a 2013 graduate of the Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership.

Recognized for his passion and commitment to the state and community. Hart has been honored with numerous awards including:

  • IMMAWII's 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award
  • 2015 League of Cities Outstanding Young City Official
  • 2014 Gift of Heart Legacy Award-National Philanthropy Association
  • 2013 KBOL and Social Action Inc. Distinguished Public Servant
  • 2009 KBBG Citizen of the Year
  • Iowa Legislature Community Service Award
  • 2009 Dr. Koob Award for Collaboration (UNI)
  • 2007 NAACP Community Service Award
  • Among others

An excellent facilitator, communicator and leader with interest in promoting fairness, equality, and encouragement, Mr. Hart is a frequently requested presenter at state and national conferences. Hart beleieves that effective communications is one of the most poweful tools for briding difference that divide communities. Mayor Hart states "beyond my accomplishments, my relationships with Christ, my wife Cassandra and my children Quentin Jr., Quenden and Halayah bring me the most satisfaction".
